One of the essays that your professor may ask you to write is public relations essay. Defined, public relations essay is the process of managing the public image of a certain person, group or entity. Public relations officers or managers try to maintain a good reputation of their client by controlling the outflow of information to the public. Some PR managers do their job by releasing information now and then, while others decide it is best to keep quiet.

A public relations essay tries to tackle the issues involved in maintaining a good reputation. One may wonder why reputation is so important for a person, group or company. Reputation is how other people view you. Reputation is basically a general opinion on a target personality that may be positive or negative. Positive reputation draws people onto you, while negative image will push away other persons from you. A company needs to maintain a good public in order to attract customers to buy its products or avail of its services. A company with a bad public image will suffer less patronage.

PR managers are hired to manage the company’s reputation as best as possible. Common public relations strategies include publishing a press release or calling up media outlets whenever the company does something worth of praise. Public relations strategies also include controlling the damage caused by the company’s mistake. A public relations manager might try to downplay the effect of the mistake or attempt to hide it from public knowledge.

The PR manager sometimes has to lie or make up stories just to maintain the good reputation of their clients. A public relations essay could tackle the moral hazard that maintaining public image poses. For managers though, they do not mind the issues about them, but the issues about their clients.
